Consent & APS Charter for Clients of Psychologists

Before people can work as psychologists they must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA). Your psychologist is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), which is the largest professional association of psychologists in Australia, with comprehensive Code of Ethics and complementary series of Ethical guidelines. Your Psychologist is also a Fellow of the College of Clinical Psychologists.

 

As a client of an APS psychologist, you have a right to expect that:

· You will be treated with respect at all times

· Your cultural background and language tradition will be respected

· You will be given a clear explanation of the services you will receive

· You will be asked to give your consent for any service provided by your psychologist prior to the service commencing and as it progresses

· You will receive an explanation about the confidentiality of the service and the exceptional situations where your confidentiality may not be protected

· You will receive a clear statement about fees for your psychologist’s services

· There will be a discussion about the estimated number of sessions required to achieve your goals

· You will receive skilled and professional services from your psychologist

· There will be clear goals that you and your psychologist are working toward

· You can ask any questions about the service you are receiving.

 

Note: If you have any concerns about the above matters, discuss them with your psychologist. If you have concerns about the conduct of your psychologist, you may call either the Psychology Board of Australia on 1300 419 495, or the Australian Psychological Society on (03) 8662 3300.

Confidentiality

All personal information gathered by the Clinical Psychologist during the provision of the psychological service will remain confidential and secure except where:

  1. It is subpoenaed by a court, or

  2. Failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at serious and imminent risk; or

  3. Your prior verbal or written approval has been obtained to:

  4. Provide a written report to another professional or agency, e.g., a General Practitioner or a Lawyer;

  5. Discuss the material with another person, e.g., a parent or employer;

  6. Disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law.

 

Fees

The cost of a individual consultation, usually around 50 minutes, is $205 and payable at the end of the session, with eligible rebates processed using the HICAPS machine. The cost of Circle of Security Online is $199.00 per person for Abbreviated COSP Two-Day Course. Any outstanding accounts may incur additional administrative fees.

 

Cancellation Policy

If, for some reason you miss or need to cancel or postpone the appointment, please give your Clinical Psychologist sufficient notice. Cancellation fees may be charged according to APS recommendations: 0-24 hours notice Full fee; 24-48 hours notice 50% fee; 48 hours – 7 days notice 25% fee. Medicare does note rebate cancellation fees.

 

Availability

At this current time, your therapist is only available during your program course via telehealth. Your Clinical Psychologist will make every effort to meet your therapeutic needs, but may also need to reschedule sessions with limited notice. This may impact upon availability of your psychologist and by signing this form you are aware of your therapist’s limited availability. Your Clinical Psychologist will be unavailable outside course/session times.

 

Professional Development & Supervision

To maintain current registration as a Clinical Psychologist, Allison B. Welch is required to participate in professional development and supervision. Part of this process involves the presentation of clients Allison B Welch works with. If Allison B Welch discusses your case in this forum, your personal details will be de-identified in order to protect your identity and privacy.

 

Exchange of Client Information

Please note that if you intend to claim rebates from Medicare or another organisation (for e.g., WorkCover, Garrison Health Services etc) then the Clinical Psychologist must provide summary reports to external referrers regarding your treatment progress. If you are transferring to a different Psychologist, your new treating Psychologist will have been informed of treatment progress if requested.
